Andrew is a long time Linux/Unix user and advocate, and is currently based in Sydney. Andrew is the managing director for Operational Dynamics, a consultancy helping clients worldwide with crisis management. Andrew has extensive experience as a Unix/Linux sysadmin and Java developer and is the maintainer of the java-gnome project, the Java bindings around GNOME and GTK.
Andrew will be discussing the pratices for good large scale deployments and how, contrary to common belief, Gentoo is perfect for the enterprise environment.
People tend to focus on the extreme customizability of Gentoo and in so doing think only about the desktop. We'll talk a bit about the big problems, and how, once you understand what's really at stake, Gentoo can be an excellent choice.
And, just because it always gets a cheer, Andrew will conclude with some of the highlights of his "What Debian can learn from the successes of Gentoo Linux" talk, but with a twist: "what Gentoo needs to do to not get caught by the traps that caught Debian as they scaled up."
Daniel is a member of Gentoo's User Relations project, which aims to build better bridges between the user community and the developer community.
